This installation is composed of 10 different paintings and a small wooden sword, one painting of 182×92, 8 paintings of 40×30 and a small painting of 35×27.

Mezinha is a colloquial term in Portuguese that refers to a folklore recipe for an ailment, a home remedy passed down from generations.

For this installation, I’m exploring rituals of comfort and the complex relationship between Portuguese identity and its often confining catholic background. In this installation I repurpose dubious common Portuguese folklore cures as commandements, they’re meant to be seen as a recipe, a metaphor for the search of a holy remedy and an allegory for displacement.

In each painting we can see different representations of these common home remedies and of Portuguese beliefs surrounding health painted in a sickly sweet, abject palette.

The rhythm and positioning of each piece imply a sense of ecstasy but also danger and a lack of self awareness.
